Come join us for an informal event celebrating Julie Vinter Hansen in the atrium dedicated to her!

Julie Vinter Hansen was born in Copenhagen in 1890. In 1917, she became the first woman ever to graduate with a Master of Science (Magisterkonferens) in astronomy from University of Copenhagen, and in 1922, she became the first woman to gain permanent employment at the University when she was hired as an Observer. The law allowing women access to public service employment had only just been adopted in 1921. She was employed at the Astronomical Observatory on Østervold and lived there until her death, though she did spend the years 1939-1945 in the United States.

Svend Laustsen (born 1927), Erik Høg (born 1932), and Jørgen Otzen (born 1935) were young astronomers working under Vinter Hansen during those early years at the Observatory. These three gentlemen will each share stories and pictures from that time, and you will be able to ask questions.

Refreshments and snacks will be served.

Attendance is free of charge, and all are very welcome!

The event is co-organized by Kvinder i Fysik and The Cosmic Dawn Center (find their website here)
