Nominee Lorenza Pia Foglia

Lorenza is an Italian-born physicist pursuing her PhD in THz biophotonics at the Technical University of Denmark. She studies the interaction of THz light and skin tissue to develop a novel technology for non-invasive glucose detection in the skin via THz spectroscopy. She is fascinated by the intersection of photonics and biology. She finds that understanding light-matter interactions and learning how to engineer them allows us to see the previously unseen, unveil biological mechanisms and devise solutions for the life sciences.

Lorenza cultivates her passion for science communication through conference talks, teaching and mentoring of students. She is interested in the role of gender in STEM, being actively involved in two feminist organizations: DTU Feminist Forum, where she helps organizing forums aimed at starting a conversation about intersectional feminism at DTU, and RAGE, an intersectional and multidisciplinary feminist platform run by artists, academics and advocates.

The prize committee will select a winner who will be announced at an award ceremony at the KIF Annual Meeting on June 4th, 2024 taking place at Aud. A, Niels Bohr Institute, Blegdamsvej 17, 2100 Copenhagen.

The winner will be notified in writing in advance and invited to give a talk following the ceremony.
