Dr. Desiree Della Monica Ferreira is a senior scientist and the deputy head of the Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics session at DTU Space, where her research focus lies in high-energy astronomical instrumentation and astrophysics. With a Ph.D. degree in observational X-ray astrophysics, her doctoral research involved observations of the hot, X-ray emitting gas in clusters of galaxies, complemented by simulations of X-ray astronomical observations.
Currently, Dr. Ferreira’s work centers around the design and characterization of X-ray telescopes for future space missions, a topic she is passionate about and also glad to teach at DTU Space. In 2019, Dr. Ferreira became a space entrepreneur, co-founding CHEXS, a company aiming to facilitate space technology transfer for the benefit of society.
Beyond her professional activities, Dr. Ferreira is a mother of two children, aged 5 and 9, and cherishes family life in Birkerød. In her spare time, she enjoys studying philosophy and dancing ballet.
