Sophie Kargo Kaptain is a Ph.D. student at the Center for Visualizing Catalytic Nanoparticles (VISION) at DTU Physics. She studies catalysts at the atomic-scale using advanced electron microscopes. Catalysts are vital for promoting chemical reactions and have become ubiquitous in the production of fertilizers, chemicals and fuels that modern society rests on. The climate crisis calls for urgent introduction of new processes based on sustainable energy and resources into these productions and in turn for new catalysts and catalytic processes. By advancing extremely sensitive imaging tools, the project aims at uncovering new insight into the atomic-scale motifs in catalysts and their mechanistic action to benefit ongoing activities in developing catalysts for a sustainable future.
