The DFS Annual Meeting and the KIF General Assembly 2025 were held on May 14th and 15th, 2025, at DTU, Technical University of Denmark in collaboration with DTU Physics. 2025 has been named as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, which was the theme embraced by DFS for this meeting with many exciting talks from the field of Quantum Physics. On the agenda was also the 2025 KIF Prize, a keynote presentation by DTU Space Professor Louise Sandberg Sørensen on using satellites for tracking climate change, and much more!
DFS Annual Meeting 2025
The DFS Annual Meeting is the main event of the year, uniting physicists from all sectors nationwide for two days of engaging activities.
This year the program featured several cutting-edge plenary talks, thematic parallel sessions, a poster competition, and opportunities for networking and social interaction. The 11 parallel sessions covered topics like quantum physics, energy, ultrafast measurements, nuclear and particle physics, solid state physics, and astrophysics—alongside contributions from fields such as education, AI, and more.
Congratulations to Nina Nathanson from Niels Bohr Institute and Karina Bataeva from DTU Physics on winning the poster prizes!

The 2025 KIF Prize Goes to…
The KIF Prize 2025 is awarded to Carolina von Essen!

Physicist, astrophysicist, mentor, equity advocate and social entrepreneur – Carolina von Essen receives this year’s Kvinder i Fysik Prize for her outstanding contributions to science and society.
From leading exoplanet collaborations like KOINet to bridging astrophysics and AI, Carolina has shown how physics can be a force for innovation and change – both in research and in real life. She currently works as a data scientist at GRUNDFOS while continuing her research at DTU Space – a rare and valuable combination of industry and academia.
Carolina has long been a passionate advocate for inclusive science environments and a dedicated mentor to students and early-career researchers — especially women and underrepresented groups.
Warm congratulations, Carolina – and thank you for being a brilliant role model, leader, and change-maker.
Thank you to the evaluation committee: Ann-Sofie Bak Nielsen, Kirstine Berg-Sørensen, and Mette Bybjerg Brock-Hansen.

Elections for the board were held, and four new members joined: Nigar Abbasova, Emilie Møller Jørgensen, Sissel Tind Kristensen, and Clémentine Rouvière. Three members stepped down: Helene Hagemann, Rikke Egeberg Tankard, and Freja Amalie Nørby. Thank you to Helene, Rikke, and Freja for their dedication to KIF over the years! Continuing (re-elected) board members are Louise Kindt, Maren Malling, Sara Loric, Henriette Elisabeth Lund, Laura Slumstrup, and Cecilie Hede Cold.
